Some of the things we did between Mar 2013 - Feb 2014:
The Brownies
had another busy year.
The new Brownie promise was introduced and we spent a few weeks looking at the promise and doing activities to help the girls understand it, including making promise bunting, looking at why each one of them is unique and special, making a faith wheel, playing recycling games and making animal hangers from old cd’s, and making good turn mice.
As a unit the girls worked for their ‘Friend to Animals’ badge activities for this included making: posters about their pets, an animal card game, camouflage animal masks, animal jigsaws, and a booklet about animals. At the end of the badge we spent an evening at the Pets at Home shop in Walsall learning about the type of animals they have in the shop and how to care for them.
Individually girls gained badges including: craft, cyclist, musician, swimmer and swimmer advanced.
In January they started working for the Big Brownie Birthday Challenge badge, activities for this included creating their own six code of conduct, designing a bedroom for their granddaughter in the future, making large dragon boats, doing team work challenges and decorating and filling boxes with things that make them smile.
Crafts during the year included making: Mother’s Day cards, Easter cards, Easter bonnets for an Easter bonnet parade, Father’s Day cards, Animal finger puppets, Animal glass painting, Lollipop bookmarks, Christmas felt star garlands, Christmas cards, Christmas stained glass hangers, Calendars, Valentine’s day cards and doing Firework paintings.
They enjoyed a number of theme evenings such as a wild animal evening where they made lion and monkey door hangers, an old fashioned garden games evening, our annual quiz evening, a Valentine’s themed evening, evenings learning about Thinking Day and the Chinese new year, and an evening finding out about Remembrance Day where they made lots of paper poppies and joined them all together to form a wreath for in the Church.
We had a visit from a lady from Cats Protection who explained to the girls all about what the charity does. The girls helped the charity by bringing in donations of cat food.
As always we held a number of Promise parties with themes such as dancing, bonfire night and Springtime and both Summer and Christmas parties.
The girls joined with the rest of the District in May for a trip to Cadbury World where they had a great time and ate loads of chocolate! In December they enjoyed a trip to the pantomime to see Aladdin with 9th and 7th Aldridge Rainbows and 2nd Aldridge Brownies.
They also took part in the Remembrance Day Parade in Aldridge and helped with some bag packing in our local Morrison’s supermarket.
Some girls took part in the Church Summer holiday club and later in the year they filled shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child.
